For those of you who are either English, French, or Spanish, and study German (are you nuts? ^^), I would like to recommend you an online dictionary that I found very helpful over the years. It's also useful for Germans of course, after all it's designed for them.

I can only judge about the German/English, English/German portion, and I haven't used all available functions there. Some require to register but it's free, just like HuiTalk.

The LEO dictionary not only provides vocabulary in abundance, it also provides users with a forum to discuss those words that one couldn't find or where one is unsure as to how or when to use them. Even after studying and working in the UK for more than four years now, I still come across many words that I've never heard before, or would like to find better ways to express myself. I am using LEO almost every day and so do millions of other users. They have an average of far more than 8,000,000 queries every day.

The link to LEO is http://dict.leo.org for the German version, http://dict.leo.org/ende?lang=en&lp=ende&search= for the English one. There are French and Spanish versions, too. You can change the language at the top left next to the search window.

I hope you'll find the LEO dictionary just as useful as I did. And let me know what made you start studying German!

I have always been a fan of Leo.  But the best part is, it helps you when it comes to words that mean the same thing.  If you look up a word that has more than one meaning in English or in German, it would give you a list of words which it could be, and you can click on individual words and check to see if it's exactly the meaning you're aiming for.  Best dictionary I've seen of yet.
