Oxford A-Z of Spelling
Review: I have a confession. I have been teaching English for around 2 years and I cannot spell. Personally I blame Margret Thatcher and 1980's educational policy but there is no helping it, the damage is done. I was intrigued by the concept of an A-Z of Spelling... Surely that is just a dictionary right? Almost. Think of it as a dictionary of hard words to spell. For me, the killers are words like recommend (how many c's and m's again?) and necessary (how many c's and s's?, in what order? why use e's and a's when they make the same sound?). This book contains handy tips for remembering the spelling of certain words like that. I would recommend this to both native speakers and students of English alike. The actual process of looking up a word can really help cement the mental image of the spelling. login or register to post comments | 318 reads |
