Review:

This was constantly open during the first two years of my degree in Thai. Overall the book is really good. It covers a broad range of points and groups things fairly logically (not as easy as it sounds for a language so grammatically ambiguous as Thai). The romanisation is fairly easy to understand once you get used to it. Although you should make every effort to read the Thai script as soon as possible.

It should be noted that this a grammar reference not a textbook. There are no exercises, just explanations of the rules of Thai.

I have very few criticisms. There are a couple of very minor mistakes but nothing which should stop you buying the book. For the more advanced student of Thai there will be little you don't already know in this book. However, I recommend keeping a copy so you can easily check that forgotten tone rule. The book addresses general Thai which is perfect for the beginner - intermediate student, however, there is little about formal Thai, Thai for business and royal Thai.

Overall, this a must have for any serious student of Thai, whatever the level.

A very useful guide to Thai grammar, which is well written and easy to use. Anyone studying Thai should really own a copy of this to refer to for those little things that are easily forgotten.
