This is a tough one as I (and probably most other people) have a large number of reasons for studying languages. I know I have many reasons for studying Spanish but probably the most important one at the moment is because I'm living in Madrid!

Well went I get online there is always one or several people online ... like right now we are 2 people online. ... the problem might be that you do not find the person that knows a language you want to know ... also as we know we are all from different places ... so we have different time hours and all ... making it much harder ... I live in the US and Im learning italian & french (intermediate) and most of those people live in europe like 9 hrs difference ... huh  that hard so just keep o ntrying or send messages to whom you would like to chat ... if you need help on english (which I doubt) or spanish just ask me ...

Hello. You could take a look at the 'Getting Started' menu for ideas about how to use the website.

Basically I suggest you send some messages to people you like the profile of and start by e-mailing each other. Then when you know someone a little better you can arrange times to meet online and chat. It's best if you can try and do it regularly, that will help you're language skills much more.

As for photos, you can add and delete them in the 'Me' menu. Look at your account and edit you're account. If you have any problem just send me a message.

Have fun!

I am learning Spanish because my girlfriend is Spanish and although her English is excellent (possibly better than mine!) none of her family speak English.  So in order to avoid those long, awkward silences (and to know what they are saying about me) I decided to learn Spanish.  Three years on and loving it!

Thank you Neil!

This is a very right question with very good choice of answers :) It has just confirmed my supposal that I belong to the majority -- we learn English to have better chances to boost our careers. At least this is an essential skill for IT specialists in Ukraine :)

I wish you displayed the ongoing results too, this would give us a better idea on what people expect from foreign languages. My guess is that most people voted for "to improve job opportunities". Recently a ielts tutor organized a similar poll and most of the responses were those related to getting a better job. Seeing the results of your poll would help me see just how concordant were the two polls.
