General Language Learning Advice

When learning a language it is all too easy to get caught up on grammar, pronunciation, spelling, and many other things. Our advice is don’t!

Some of you may not be old enough to appreciate this example but trust me it’s true, have you noticed that after a couple of drinks your language skills seem to improve. They do not actually improve but you are less worried about making mistakes and so your speaking is much better.

Mistakes are great. If you make a mistake that means you can improve, if you never make mistakes that means you are not experimenting enough to improve. Yes, it is embarrassing to make mistakes but normally the person you are talking to will be happy and glad that you are learning their language.

Huitalk is a safe place for you to experiment with your language skills because everyone knows how difficult it is to learn a language. Remember to look at other members’ level of ability before contacting them so that they will be at a similar level to you.

It is good to experiment. Don’t stick with people at your level all the time. If you are intermediate, occasionally try a conversation with an advanced learner to push yourself. It is also good to try and practice with people at a lower level, answering their questions about your own language can be quite a challenge.

We won’t lie to you, language learning takes a lot of time and practice but if you do it, is one of the most rewarding things ever. Ten minutes a day with Huitalk will give you a whole new language. So don't wait, get started now, search for a language exchange partner here
