Safety for Language Exchanges

Remember what your mum told you when you were a child? Never talk to strangers. Good advice. But if we did everything out mums told us we would never have any fun. We believe that the 99.9% of people are genuinely nice, friendly people. Just be careful about that 0.1%.

Huitalk is open to all and we have no way to validate the information people give. Any offensive or obviously fake profiles are taken down immediately but we have no way of knowing if someone is telling the truth about their age/gender/intentions etc.

Just following some common sense precautions (which you should always follow when you meet people online, not just on Huitalk) will ensure you have a much safer time.

  1. Never give your address to anyone, even after meeting them, unless you trust them as a friend.
  2. Never give personal information such as a telephone number or email address to someone you do not know and trust.
  3. Talk to the person or chat with them 3 or 4 times before you meet them.
  4. Arrange to meet in a public place at a busy time. Cafes in central areas are perfect.
  5. If someone is being annoying do not be afraid to block or ignore that person.

If a user is acting inappropriately or is being annoying please do let us know and we will take the appropriate action.

Finally, get out there and meet people! Take care and have fun!
